Help & frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about the Dekodo QR-Code-Visualizer app.

What is Dekodo?
Dekodo is the QR-Code-Visualizer app from Forum Datenaustausch. It lets you read the QR codes printed on the new QR code sheets that come with many Swiss medical bills. You scan the codes with your smartphone camera and see what the bill says.
What is the QR code sheet, and what does it look like?

The QR code sheet accompanies bills issued under the Forum Datenaustausch standard. The sheet holds the document's full content in several QR codes. You scan those codes with the app and see the content clearly laid out. Here's what one of these sheets looks like (example with sample data):

How do I scan a QR code sheet?
Open the app and allow access to your camera. Hold the camera so that the whole sheet is in frame, sharp and well lit – it contains several QR codes, and the app needs all of them. The app reads the codes automatically. If it can't read some of them at that distance, it tells you and guides you through scanning those close up.
Which QR codes are supported?
The app reads the QR codes on billing forms issued under the Forum Datenaustausch standard. Other QR codes – the Swiss QR Code used to pay a QR-bill, for example – aren't read.
Is my data safe?
Yes. The scanned data is processed only on your device and is not sent to a server. You'll find the details in our privacy policy.
The app isn't picking up some of the QR codes – what can I do?
Make sure the lighting is good, hold your device steady and check that the codes aren't creased or covered. You can also scan the stubborn ones close up.
Is Dekodo free?
Yes. Forum Datenaustausch offers Dekodo free of charge on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
